The box-art of the 'Tiger-I Early Production Version'

This kit consists of Academy's "Early Tiger" kit #13239 plus several new sprues supplying the parts for a full interior. Released in 1996, it was the first plastic Tiger kit to have an interior, but it has been outdone by the much more accurate Rye Field Eastern Front Tiger kit.

The interior provided in this Academy kit comprises the turret insides, the forward crew room, the under-floor drive train, the engine compartment and radiator compartments. There are no crew figures included.

No ammunition is supplied for the hull and there are no contents in the large ammunition bins. This lack is not apparent when the turret is lifted off the hull, because the bin doors are closed.

Only about half of the items stored on the turret inner walls are included. There are major accuracy problems in the turret interior structure. The hull is better represented, but also lacks many smaller items of equipment. The engine is oversized and consequently its top air filters are flattened.

The kit represents an "Early" Tiger. Decals for 6 vehicles are included; none of them exactly match the kit. The mismatches range from Tiger "S11" having a different turret bin to the one in the kit, all the way to Tiger "217" being a Mid rather than an "Early" Tiger, with many differences throughout.

My ongoing review and comments;

Crew hatches in the hull Ammunition bin beside driver Beams under the 25mm roof
Commander's Seat Vertical periscope Electrical connector cable
Beam Ammunition bins Track tension
Drum cupola Support for scissors scope in early cupola Colours for radiator compartments
Commander's shield Breathing tube holders S-mine controls
Idler wheel First kind of ventilator fan

These are reviews or examinations of the kit;
