Aspects of the event

Description

The Tiger's first African combat was at Tebourba. British forces had taken this small town, threatening the capital Tunis. The 10th Panzer Division counterattacked on 27 November, initiating a week-long battle. Although the 501 Battalion still had only four Tigers in Africa, they were ordered to participate. On 1 December, with three usable Tigers and supporting tanks, they crossed the Medjez river at Jedeida and tackled American tanks and British guns in the olive groves east of Tebourba. The next day, one Tiger joined Gruppe Lüder which fought its way down from Chouigui to cut off the town on the west side.
