Description
This is Tiger 112, on its way to Tebourba via Jedeida. It is following the company commander's Tiger which passed here less than a minute ago (compare the clouds in the two photos). The date is 1st December 1942 and the Tiger battalion is going to their first African battle.
The triangular hill in the distance is Djebel Mergueb and its shape is unusual enough that the location of this photo can be deduced. It is indicated here, on this detail from a 1935 map. Two farmhouses are drawn to the right of the tank's position; one of them can be glimpsed at the extreme right of the photo. Its slanted roof is very unusual for Tunisia and the building survives into modern times.
The next photo on the negative strip shows the Tigers in Jedeida.
