Description
Tiger 11 of the 501 battalion was one of the first three Tigers to land in Africa. As the 1st company commander's tank, it led the company in battle until its destruction at Hunt's Gap. By 20 January it was sporting kill rings on its gun barrel; we can count 5 in its final photos. Upon arrival in Africa, its exhaust shields, its track toolbox, and some of its Feifel tubing were apparently painted in RAL 8020, while the rest of the tank had the first Tropical scheme. Repair patches were welded over its frontal impact marks resulting from the battle of Tebourba. Photos suggest that by the time of Operation Ochsenkopf, the front hull panels of this Tiger had been resprayed almost entirely in RAL 8020 because of this work. But patches on the mantlet were apparently overpainted in RAL 7008.
