Description
A battle group approaches Djebel Solbia on one of the two "Eilbote" missions, probably the first one, in which case the date is 18 January 1943. This is Tiger 11, assigned to the commander of the 1st company. The tank has already taken hits in earlier battles, and they have been repaired with small round steel patches welded over them. There are kill rings painted on the 88mm gun. Earlier, Tiger 121 was photographed approaching this area.
According to the German battle report for the 18th January, a Tiger required an engine change after driving only 20km on the way to the assembly area, because water got into the oil. There is a "breakdown" flag set into the stones by the farm entrance in this photo, and we can see other vehicles concealed by the roadside. The flag probably indicates that this is where the engine swop was made. The repair was completed quickly and the Tiger carried on.
Another photo was taken nearby, showing Tiger 141 and the same farm in the distance.
