Aspects of the event

Description

On 18th January 1943, Operation "Eilbote 1" was launched. The 1st company of s.Pz.Abt.501 was committed to it, with the 2nd company held in reserve. All nine Tigers of the 1st company were operational at the beginning; the report states that three to five Tigers were functioning on any given day, and dropouts were due to external influences rather than technical issues. The report complains that spare parts were not available and the workshop staff of the 2nd company were still in Trapani along with the special tools for Pz.3 and Tigers.

Kampfgruppe Weber, including four Tigers, started from an assembly area south of Pont du Fahs and joined forces with an infantry regiment at 05:30. They attacked Djebel Solbia which was heavily defended by the French.
