Description
This photo was annotated by a German veteran; "Rechts und links der Strasse sieht man die Einschläge der frz. Artillerie. Die Strasse selbst lag unter dem besten Punktfuer der fdl. Geschosse." (To the right and left of the road you can see the impacts of the French artillery. The road itself ran under the well-aimed fire of the enemy guns.)
According to the veteran, this photo was taken during the attack on Djebel Solbia, therefore on the 18th January 1943. The location must be where the road from Pont du Fahs crosses the Oued el Kebir.
The next known photo of the mission shows Tiger 121 approaching Djebel Solbia.
