Description
This photo is from a set of three, in a veteran's album, portraying a wrecked Tiger of s.Pz.Abt.501. We know that this photo shows the same Tiger as another photo because of the girder (or similar) in front of the tank, the half-opened driver's hatch, and the missing turret that left its bearing ring behind.
The turret has apparently been torn from this tank by an explosion. The turret bearing ring would not still be attached to the hull if German mechanics had removed the turret correctly. It's barely visible in this overexposed photo, but the turret can actually be seen over the hull roof. Another photo shows it clearly.
There are at least 6 impacts visible on the upper hull side, and they may include complete penetrations. They could result from a fierce battle, or from Allied practice shooting with an abandoned wreck.
