Thumbnail image: Fourteen stripes

Description

An Allied soldier examines the gun barrel of a demolished Tiger. This photo is from an album where it was annotated like so: "14 stripes on gun barrel".

The slanting forward edges of the hull, and the vertical bars added to hold spare track links, suggest that this is a tank of s.Pz.Abt.501. That is confirmed by another photo. The missing mudflap exposes the hull side, and because there is no bracket welded there, we know that this Tiger had the second type of mudflaps (i.e. the wide folding ones).
