Description
This is the sole Befehlstiger issued to the 8th company of Das Reich. It is an earlier version than any of their other Tigers, therefore we can recognise it in the list of their chassis numbers. It is one of the first Befehlstigers ever built, and has the 2nd type of side skirt. Like many Befehlstigers, it has features that do not fit neatly into the sequence of Tiger evolution. Its rear mudflaps are apparently unique; they have no ribs. Another unique feature is the horizontal antenna tube on the left side of the hull, mirroring the usual one. The slanted antenna tube on the rear wall is longer than usual, and was probably not factory-installed because it was not in the original design of Befehlstigers; therefore the second horizontal tube may have been for the star antenna. The exhausts have the raised covers but there is nowhere to attach exhaust shields. There are clips for the starter handle on the rear wall, a feature not standardised until much later.
