Description
Personnel of "Grossdeutschland" meet beside Tiger S40, early in 1943. The tank is still painted in "tropical" camouflage and carries the national flag for air recognition. Unlike some Tigers of GD, this one's turret bin seems to be painted to match the tank.
Besides the turret number, we can match this to another photo of a Tiger "S40" by the unusual way the crew store the rear S-mine launchers and a dent in the right-hand exhaust shield, now worsened but measurably the same height. This should be the later of the two photos because a mudflap is now missing and there is additional damage.
The distinctive damage to the mudflap allows us to recognise this Tiger in a later photo.
