Description
A 25pdr gun of "E" troop, 155th Battery, is seen shortly after the battle at Sidi N'sir, probably on 27 February 1943. Behind it is a group of British prisoners of war. In the distance is the farm known to the British as "Barfoot Cottage". The horizon is formed by the line of hills leading to Hunt's Gap; the German battle group is already on the way there.
The British forces defending this area had almost no protective cover; trees, like the ones at the farm, were few. The stream bed behind the troops was used by Gunner J.G.Bryce to escape the area on the night after the battle. Another photo of this gun of "E" Troop shows the bleak landscape.
