Description
Among the ammunition boxes piled around a field gun at the battle of Sidi N'sir there is a box labelled "SERVICE BISCUITS AND CHOCOLATE". The supplies were brought to the guns through unprotected roads like the one in the photo; the landscape offered almost no cover at all. On the other hand, the rocky peaks are only a few hundred meters away, offering the Germans places to observe and snipe at the gunners. Another photo of this gun of "E" Troop shows more of the landscape.
The location of this photo can be determined to within a few meters by using the parallax of those peaks with the ravine in the foreground.
