Description
A German report from Tunisia, dated December 1942, listed many faults in the new Tiger tank, including this one; the track could ride up on the sprocket teeth, putting itself under such tension that its own pins could not be pulled out. The only way to remove it was to cut it with a welding torch. The report is quoted in "Tiger I & II; combat tactics".
This particular photo was taken during the retreat from Hunt's Gap. The Tiger is number 841 (the long shovel identifies it), and this repair scene is also visible in the well-known photo of Tiger 813 being towed from the battlefield.
