Thumbnail image: Kampfgruppe Lang above Sidi N'sir

Description

This is Operation Ochsenkopf, the attack on Beja. The German battle group is going down into Hunt's Gap; the hills fading into the distance at the left form the far side of that valley. The two hills above the nearest tank are close to the Sidi N'sir railway station, but the station itself is out of sight.

Kampfgruppe Lang approaching Sidi N'sir

In the distance, two Pz.4 tanks have driven up into a muddy field, leaving deep tracks. They have taken hull-down positions behind a rise and they offer covering fire for the German armoured column descending to Sidi N'sir. The hatches of the wrecked Semovente can be seen (arrowed).
