Thumbnail image: Tiger 131 and a captured halftrack

Description

Tiger 131 (from s.Pz.Abt.501) is followed by a captured American M2 halftrack. In its trailer there are spare roadwheels for Tigers. They are handpainted with the 501 battalion's name, implying that they were shipped as spares from Germany. An Sd.Kfz.251 is hidden behind the M2, but is visible in another Tiger photo taken moments earlier. The two Tigers are obviously the same one, and the other photo shows its tactical number.

This is the start of Operation Ochsenkopf, the morning of 26 February 1943. The high ground at the right side of the photo conceals the Germans from British observers on "Hill 609".

The location of this photo is known from the stony hilltop with its distinct pattern of ridges, plus the shape of the land as seen in other photos taken here.
