On each side of the Tiger's engine deck, there was a large air inlet grille [A] and behind it a solid panel [B]. The photo shows a museum's Sturmtiger.
These items were separate and were bolted into the hull structure. The solid panel had a smaller grille attached to its rear edge by hinges.
The corresponding items in the kit have a dimensional problem. The hinges [C] are considerably larger than they should be. As a result, the solid panel [B] is shifted forward by about 2mm. The boundary between grille and solid panel at [D] is shifted forward also, and as a result the entire grille [A] is about 2mm too short. Naturally the kit's photo-etch mesh screen is also too short. Aftermarket mesh screens that are correctly scaled, do not fit this kit.
