About this Tiger unit
s.Pz.Abt.508 fought a retreating campaign in Northern Italy in 1944. It began with several assaults on the Anzio bridgehead, then was pushed back to Rome and beyond over a period of months. It lost most of its Tigers due to mechanical failures, partially caused by orders to disperse the tanks widely across the front. The third company of the battalion was equipped with Borgward demolition vehicles controlled by their Tigers, which had an extra antenna.
