Thumbnail image: Tiger 141 after its only battle

Description

The tactical number on the left of this Tiger's turret is obscured, but we can see that it begins with "1". The whitewash on the superstructure front is a match to Tiger 141, which explains why the cupola, the track cable and other items are missing. This Tiger was badly damaged in a battle on 9 January 1943. Reports state that its hull armour was cracked and its cupola shot off. The next day, the 503's workshop declared it irreparable.

According to a first-hand account of the battle, the Tigers retreated 2km and regrouped when they accepted defeat. This photo, and another photo, must have been taken at that location. The more distant Tiger in the photo is numbered "123" as confirmed by its whitewash matching another photo.
