Thumbnail image: Rear of Tiger 314

Description

This is the back of a destroyed Tiger. Its rear wall is intact, and the lack of exhaust shields and baffle plates mark this as a 1942 Tiger, which is confirmed by its turret markings. It has a unique feature: the basket from its turret floor, intended to store three jerrycans of water for the crew, has been unbolted and welded to the rear wall. We can see in a photo of the intact Tiger 314 that it was still used to hold three jerrycans here. This basket was often removed from Tigers to make room within the tank. Another modification to 314 is a large metal storage box that was added to the right-hand rear wall. The final explosion has torn panels off it.
