Description

This Tiger is one of the original tanks of s.Pz.Abt.503, as evidenced by its slanting front. Therefore it originally had a white turret number that may not be the same as its current black one. Discovering the original number from photos is often straightforward, but not in this case. We do know that the 503 battalion kept Tigers within the same company when renumbering. We also know how most Tigers of the 1st company were renumbered, leaving few possibilities for this one.

The Tiger originally numbered "131" is the best candidate. It has a turret side hatch, which we can see in "123"; it has no spare track brackets on its nose; and it lost its front right mudflap. Also, a small upturn in the corner of the left mudflap is visible in both photos.
