Description
This newspaper story is from the Völkischer Beobachter Nr. 138, 17 May 1944. It shows Kurt Knispel sitting on a Tiger.
The Tiger can probably be identified. It has the "standard" mantlet of the time (there's a thick bar at the telescope area, with gently rounded corners). This matches a dozen tanks in the 1st company of s.Pz.Abt.503. At the upper end of the mantlet, at the right of the photo, we can see two small items attached to the turret wall. This is non-standard for Tigers but it corresponds to a headlight attachment added to a few of those Tigers, e.g. Tiger 111.
Very few Tigers have the headlight attachment. Tiger 101 is one of them, and Kurt Knispel poses in that same Tiger for another photo, wearing what seem to be identical clothes. It seems safe to assume that both photos are from the same photo session and use the same Tiger.
