Description
This Mid Tiger was left on the Via Roma in Cori by s.Pz.Abt. 508 on 25 May 1944, when they were obliged to leave and abandon some Tigers. These two were apparently set alight; on the near one, the turret front is darkened by soot. The engine hatch is slightly raised and the ventilator cover is dislodged. The rear engine cover panel is gone. All of this suggests that explosives were used to damage the engine. The distant Tiger also has discolouration that suggests a fire.
Americans of the 3rd infantry division are moving into the town and examining the Tigers. This photo has a date annotation; 28 May 1944.
The tank has other damage that precedes its abandonment. The rear mudflap is gone and has been replaced by a makeshift one. The clips for the jack seem to be incomplete. Worst of all, there is severe damage to several road wheels, possibly the reason for this tank's abandonment.
