Thumbnail image: Two Tigers dumped in Cori

Description

This "mid" Tiger sits in a square beside petrol pumps in the Italian town of Cori, south of Rome. Behind the American medic we can glimpse another Tiger that has been pushed through a wall into an olive grove. Both of these Tigers were abandoned together on the Via Roma but the Americans have moved them into town to clear the road, which they need for their advance to Rome.

The Tiger is clearly from the end of the "mid" period and is a Borgward controller; witness the antenna on the turret side. The suspension is collapsed, implying that the torsion bars broke. This is usually caused by an internal fire. The Germans probably set the tank alight before leaving.
