Tiger 831 sits abandoned

A wrecked Tiger, number "831", has been sitting here since before these trees had leaves. Halted by a mine, it was abandoned by the Germans when they retreated from Kharkiv. Now it has been stripped of reusable parts, leaving the bare hull.

The small house at the right of the photo is marked [1] on this image of Kharkiv, made by a German reconnaissance plane as preparation for the invasion of the Soviet Union.

A small house still stands there at time of writing (2017) altough it may have been partially or completely rebuilt. Many of the neighbouring houses no longer exist.
