Description
Tiger 822 is on the platform at Kharkiv's railway station, at the start of February 1943. This must be slightly later than other photos of Tiger 822 on the platform because the rear S-mine has been put in the operating position. But the tank is still mostly configured for travel, with its side skirts lying on the engine deck and the "transport" tracks still fitted. The crew must have succeeded in starting the engine, because the tank has turned around since the earlier photo.
The location was deduced from the buildings in the distance. They can be found on wartime reconnaissance photos of the city. By drawing 2 sight lines, we can put the photographer at their intersection.
The lines intersect just a few meters from railway lines, which agrees with the Tiger's photo. But according to this aerial image taken before the German attack, there was a roof on the platform at this point. We can see no roofing in the photo; the simplest explanation is that it caught fire during the fighting in the city the previous year.
