Description
Some time after the surrender of Axis forces in Tunisia, this photograph was taken from an Allied reconnaissance aircraft flying 150 feet above the ground. It shows a POW camp in fields to the west of Mateur. In the distance looms Djebel Ichkeul, a landmark for the whole Tunis plain.
The farm at the top left of the image is perhaps the only place nearby where hedges grew in 1943. There are hedges in a photo of Tiger 712, one of several cues that suggest a location for the tank.
