Description
A Tiger of s.Pz.Abt.504 lies abandoned in Sicily in 1943. The tank's suspension has collapsed due to an internal fire. The rotated turret (aiming into a hillside rather than at the enemy) and the open engine hatch suggest a failed attempt to repair it preceded its deliberate immolation. The enterprising Sicilian populace has already removed all of the sheet-metal mudguards and several wheels.
A side vent of Mt. Etna is in the background, with an unusual hilltop farmhouse beside it; this allows us to say that the Tiger is on a particular stretch of the Via Armando Diaz, but due to postwar construction we cannot find it exactly.
