Description
In Belpasso, a small town in Sicily, this Tiger was exploded by the German forces while heading east. The cupola lies on the road beside the tank, its bolts broken by the explosion. The turret's seating ring has been detached from the hull roof and can be glimpsed on it. The locking mechanisms of the loader's hatch have been blown away, evidence that the hatch was closed when the explosives were detonated. The sheet-metal fenders and mudguards are missing, taken by the local people. Now, as evidenced by the jeep, Allied troops are examining the wreck.
The street is Via IV Traversa. Few of the buildings remain in modern times. At the left of the photo we can glimpse #64 Via Roma.
