Thumbnail image: Tiger at the Y junction

Description

A battle took place near a "Y" junction south of Niscemi, in the days after the Allied landings on the beaches of Sicily. Elements of the HG division, with Tigers of 2/s.Pz.Abt.504, were attacked by American tanks here.

Now, shortly after the battle, an American vehicle encounters a Tiger that was apparently driving north to Niscemi when it was attacked from behind. Impacts are visible on the Tiger's turret wall. None of them seem to have penetrated the 80mm armour; it is not clear why the Tiger is stopped here. Soon, the wreck will be moved off the road.

Trees that appear in both photos

The location of this photo is deduced from the fact that the trees at the right can also be seen in an overall view of the junction.
