Description
This is Tiger "211" of s.Pz.Abt. 504, abandoned in Sicily because the 504 battalion could not recover it. It has been set afire; the rubber tyres have burnt off the road wheels, leaving their reinforcing steel wires. Soot from the fire covers this side of the Tiger, obscuring its turret number. The site is 5km east of Caltagirone. The date on the photo is 19 July 1943, which would be 6 days after the Tiger was abandoned here.
