Tiger 111 abandoned

Tiger "111" of s.Pz.Abt.504 broke down on the retreat to Pontedera and had to be abandoned by the roadside, 2.5km north of the village of Saline, on 30 June 1944. The battalion reported 22 Tigers lost, mostly due to mechanical failure, on this 60km journey through the hills. Ahead of Tiger "111" is another abandoned Tiger, now turned on its side, presumably by American engineers who were responsible for clearing the roads. One of the towing shackles on Tiger "111" is broken, a very unusual event. A towing cable lies in the grass behind the vehicle.
