Thumbnail image: HL210 engine in wrecked Tiger 823

Description

This is a closeup of the engine compartment of Tiger 823, weeks after it was wrecked at Hunt's Gap. The air filter and other parts were blasted off the top of the HL210 engine. A support leg for the turret floor now lies across the top of the engine. The vertical tube on the far side of the engine is the filler for the engine oil reservoir. The horizontal bar beyond it is a shaft for disengaging the fans prior to underwater travel. At the back of the compartment, on the right of the photo, there is a tangle of wide and narrow diameter pipes for cooling water, and the gearbox for the fans.
