Thumbnail image: Tigers disabled in Operation Eilbote

Description

On 18th January 1943, Kampfgruppe Weber battled their way along this mountain road, which was heavily defended by French forces. Two Tigers were disabled, "one from destruction of the suspension compenents and damage to the transmission caused by hits, one Tiger by a hung-up transmission", according to the battle report. Another report describes the first of those Tigers; "An idler was damaged by a mine and no replacement for it was available. This vehicle was then used as the spare parts reserve, by stripping it of the parts needed by other damaged Tigers."

Two Tigers damaged in Operation Eilbote

This photo almost certainly shows the two Tigers described in the reports. Careful examination reveals that the nearest Tiger is "132". A captured French tractor is in the foreground. The road at the bottom right of the photo leads down to the Kébir Dam.
