Description
After the battle of Sidi N'sir this Pz.3 is being towed back to Mateur. In 1943 there was no direct road, so the German attack used the road to the east. Sidi N'sir railway station can be seen at the right of the photo.
A German situation report for Kampfgruppe Lang, made on 4 March, puts the overall losses for this operation as 19 Pz.III, 8 Pz.IV and 7 Tigers. Also "A number of tanks are still being towed away, their repair depending on available spare parts."
A British account states that one Tiger was holed 3 times in the turret at Sidi N'sir, but it is not counted as a loss in the German report, and there are no known photos. If the British correctly identified it as a Tiger, then it must have been recovered.
