Description
Tiger 712 was captured by the Allies in Tunisia in April 1943. Now, weeks later, it sits in a depot west of Mateur awaiting transfer to the USA. A shipping label is stencilled on its side. On its turret, the central "1" digit has not been repainted since the tank had the number "21"; the "7" and the "2" have been painted around it.
Behind the Tiger we can see a glimpse of Djebel Ichkeul. Here I compare the mountain seen behind the Tiger to another photo of this Djebel. There are, of course, other hills in Tunisia that look similar to this, but combined with several other cues (such as the hedges beyond the tank) it tells us where Tiger 712 is located.
