Description

This Tiger, tactical number 823 (formerly 223) is part of Kampfgruppe Lang, and is heading toward Beja. The date is probably 27 February 1943, so with most of the battle group, this Tiger spent the night in these hills after the advance was halted on the 26th by stiff British opposition at Sidi N'sir.

In the center of the photo we can see the local high point, "Hill 609", where British observers were stationed on the 25th. The Germans captured that hill on the morning of the 26th.

This Tiger is the only one in s.Pz.Abt.501 known to have the new mantlet with thicker armour at the eye holes.
