Description
While travelling from Bizerte to Manouba, Tiger 243 halted for this propaganda photo that was printed in German newspapers. The road at this point was intact, as the photo shows, and the Tiger had no reason to leave it except to climb dramatically out of a ditch for the camera.
This place has been identified. Jerrycans are stored on the Tiger's roof, a very unusual arrangement that exactly matches other photos of the Bizerte-Manouba journey. Those photos tell us the direction of the evening sun, so we know the orientation of this bend in the road; only a few places on the route match up. A small farm house is visible beyond the Tiger in an olive grove; satellite photos show a curve in the modern road that matches, albeit with fewer trees. Beyond the trees is a tall pole; in modern times there is still a line of tall high-voltage electricity poles along a side road that existed in 1943.
