Description
The turret of Tiger 142 is left on the ground after the battle for Beja. The turret floor is broken off and lies on the right of the photo. Demolition charges must have blown the turret off the hull. The large turret bin has been cleanly torn off; the welded stubs on the rear wall are the remnants of a Pz.3 bin that preceded it.
The German battle report, quoted in "Tiger I & II; combat tactics", states that only one Tiger in this battle was hit by an anti-tank gun. The British war diary states that a Churchill commanded by Lieut. Hern had a "snap shot" at a Tiger on February 27th; that is, the Tiger was moving. If accurate, both references must be to 142.
