About this detail of the Tiger
The book "DW to Tiger I", by Jentz and Doyle, contains on page 129 some turret stowage diagrams taken from the Tiger Turret Manual. For reasons of space, it omits some detail sketches that are in the manual. Here are the missing sketches, thanks to Hilary Doyle. Where I can determine their scale, I have tried to provide a reference measurement.
This shows the left side of the mounting for the . At the top you can see the holder for the commander's gas mask. The item in the middle is presumably a metal ring at the end of a pole or beam. It holds a one end of a "Periskop", which I have not yet identified, the other end of which is in a cup-like holder on the turret floor.
The supporting beam seems to have two arms, and they might be fixed to both sides of the balance mount, or just to both sides of its left face. If only we had a photograph!
These two sketches, with two different scales, show a box for "MG Ersatzlaufe" mounted on the rear right-hand leg of the turret floor (you can see it on page 129 of the book). The overall length of this box I have not yet determined; obviously this diagram cuts out the middle part of it. Also I don't know if this box was present in all versions of Tiger I.
These show the pump and nozzle for the inflatable sealing tube in the . I don't know the scale of these sketches but presumably it's the same as the sketch at the top of this page.
This, I think, is a key for locking hatches etc. If so, I think it was stowed on top of the gearbox. I do not have a scale for this sketch.
Please accept my apologies for not having had the time to work out what all these diagrams mean. Eventually I hope to model all the turret stowage and equipment.
