About this detail of the Tiger

The tow cables stored on the hull roof were moved slightly when the S-mine defence system was added to the Tiger, which happened after the subject time of this kit. Tamiya have included the cable parts from their other Early Tiger kit, but they are not exactly correct for this subject.

The ends of the cables are held in small clips, molded into the plastic cable part. Tamiya have placed these clips too far back on the hull roof.

This sketch shows the correct position of the two clips on the left side of the roof. The right side was similar.

There is another error in the tow cables. The two large clips that hold the body of the cable, plus the segments of the gun cleaning rod, are too close together. The real ones were 1030mm apart. The rod segments in the kit are therefore too short. Also, while the real tank had 3 rod segments on the right side, it had only 2 on the left.

This sketch shows the correct position of the main cable clips, as seen from the left side.

Another error is in the open loops of cable on the rear deck. On the African tanks, with the cables moved forward, these loops should be smaller.

There were 2 small clips for each cable on the deck, between the gratings, which Tamiya does not provide. This diagram shows the correct location of the clips and the size of the cable loop.
