About this detail of the Tiger
Trumpeter's kit represents a Tiger from about January 1944. A number of changes were made to the Tiger's design around this time. One of them was the elimination of a shovel that used to be stored at the front of the tank, on the glacis plate.
This is Tiger "113" from s.Pz.Abt.507 and it's one of the older Tigers from this time. It had the shovel on its glacis plate. In this photo the shovel has been removed, but we can see the two large clips provided to hold it in place.
Trumpeter's kit does not include the shovel or the clips. It therefore represents only the final batch of "Mid" Tigers.
Unfortunately, some of the decal options in the kit seem to be earlier Tigers that do require the shovel. For example, Tiger "113" is one of the decal options. This is the diagram in Trumpeter's instruction sheet, and the logo of s.Pz.Abt.507 is provided as well as the number "113". But the kit would need the shovel, or at least its two clips, to represent this Tiger correctly.
