About this detail of the Tiger
The Tiger E had numerous small changes made during its production, and some major changes. This kit represents the "early" period of Tiger construction, and it covers some of the small changes made therein, but not all of them. The tank's development is documented in [1] .
Each set of decals in this kit corresponds to a specific version of the "early" Tiger. But the kit does not include enough parts for all of them.
Version "B", Tiger S33 of Pz.Reg.2, is the least accurate option in the kit. The real Tiger "S33" had an unusual wide turret bin with side supports. This kit does not provide it. The instructions are also wrong to specify the later-model Feifel filters for this option, but the correct Feifels are in the kit.
Version "D", Tiger S04, belonged to 13./SS-Panzerregiment 1 and not to s.Pz.Abt. 101 as the instructions state. More seriously, it had small features that are not in the kit. Tiger "S04" was a Command Tiger, and therefore it had three antenna stubs, a sealed MG hole in the mantlet, and - most conspicuously - a large tube on the rear wall for storing antennae. These are not provided. The instructions are also wrong in saying that it had the loader's perisope cover.
Version "C", Tiger 131 of s.Pz.Abt.504, is accurate in terms of the kit parts, but the decal sheet omits the third cross that it had on the rear wall, and the specified paint scheme (overall brown) is wrong; the tank had a 2-colour scheme.
Version "A", Tiger 213 of s.Pz.Abt.502, is depicted with spare tracks on the turret, but the real tank did not have them. The instructions also mandate the loader's periscope for this version, but again, the real tank didn't have it. Also note that this Tiger had large crosses painted on a black square, toward the rear of the hull sides; the instructions show small crosses at the middle.
