Mantlet sealing frame

To the home page

The Tiger was given an elaborate system of watertight seals so that it could travel underwater. This system was deleted in mid 1943. It should not be in this model kit.

Sealing mechanisms in Rye Field turret

Unfortunately, some model companies see the system in Tiger "131", assume that it's a permanent feature and copy it into their kits. The most visible part of the sysem inside the Tiger is a large frame on the inside front of the turret (this image is from a Rye Field kit).

Front wall of a late Tiger

The Tiger version built by this model kit didn't have the frame. This photo shows the inside front of a Late Tiger. This is what the front wall of your turret should look like: featureless except for two lubrication taps (arrowed).
