The first 28 (or so) Tigers were given narrow rear mudflaps that didn't fold or hinge. The crews of African Tigers added side extensions to them.
Each rear mudflap had three stiffeners welded to it, and a hole was cut into each stiffener as shown here. This turned the stiffener into a handle, useful when lifting the mudflap off the tank.
In this kit, Rye Field provide two alternative sets of mudflaps. On the "E" sprue there are mudflaps with stiffeners and extensions all in one piece. These ones don't have the holes.
But the kit's instructions tell you to use mudflaps from the "W" sprue. These ones don't have stiffeners at all. You can obtain a separate "upgrade set" from Rye Field that provides metal stiffeners.
