Snorkel on a Tiger

Early Tigers were capable of submersed travel. They had a snorkel that could be assembled and attached to the rear deck.

Snorkel storage inside a Tiger

When not in use, the snorkel was broken into 3 segments that fit inside each other. The device was then stored inside the tank, at the rear left of the engine compartment. This rough sketch shows where it was kept; inside a large tube, fixed to the hull roof, that also served as the 4th segment of the snorkel. At the bottom of the tube was a connection to an air duct on the floor.

Rye Field Model Tiger engine compartment

Rye Field Model's Tiger kit does not provide the snorkel in assembled form. Also, it does not provide the internal tube where the snorkel would be kept. That corner of the model's engine compartment is empty.
