About this detail of the Tiger
As originally designed, the Tiger could be sealed for submersion. Preparations for this included the removal and stowage of the turret's coaxial MG. It would be stored on the right-hand inside wall of the turret. Three metal supports were welded to the wall there to hold it.
This is the inside wall of Tiger "712", a museum tank that has been repainted. The vision port is in the middle of the picture. Arranged on the wall are the three holders (arrowed) for the MG. The forward two have clamps locked by wingnuts. The rear one has a notched seat that engages with lugs on the MG34.
When the tank was in normal use, the MG was fixed in its usual place in the turret, and the holders were used to store a long rod that could seal the MG's opening in the mantlet. That was necessary for submersion.
This is the turret inside wall in Rye Field's kit. The MG supports should be at the places indicated here, but the kit provides nothing; no holders, no sealing tool, no indication that anything was ever there.
