About this detail of the Tiger
The Tiger was equipped with a new cupola from July 1943. This cupola had a low profile, sloped armour, and seven periscopes. Each periscope was covered by an armoured cap.
The armoured caps were simple bent strips of metal, welded to the cupola's slanted surface. As a result they had a slight overhang on their outer edge. This example is on a museum Tiger.
This model kit's cupola was produced in a simple 2-part mold. The overhang cannot be produced in such a mold; therefore the kit has vertical edges on its periscope caps. You can improve your model by shaving back the caps slightly to create the overhang, as seen in this German profile diagram.
