About this detail of the Tiger
The Hachette Tiger Tank model includes the housing for the gears that turned the turret. You can see it in this photo from Hachette's own website. The handwheel (1) is the commander's manual override; the gear wheels are in the housing (2), driven by the hydraulic gearbox on the floor.
Hachette have extended the gearbox all the way down to the floor (3). This is not correct. As you can see here, the gearbox engaged with the teeth in the turret ring, and did not reach the floor.
Immediately ahead of the gearbox, there were 2 shafts. One was a turret support leg, which is correctly placed in Hachette's kit. The one closer to us is the drive shaft for the gearbox; Hachette have not provided this.
Note that the turret support leg carries a folding footrest for the commander, which is also missing from the kit.
This is the hydraulic gearbox on the turret floor, seen from behind. The drive shaft connects at the place indicated by the arrow.
The top of the drive shaft connects to the forward side of the gearbox.
This detail from a German diagram shows the layout of all these items, seen from above. Rebuilding this assembly will make your Hachette Tiger Tank kit more accurate.
