This kit provides four sets of decals, for Tigers of two units : the 507 battalion of the Wehrmacht and the 101 battalion of the Waffen-SS. The 507's decal sets are not appropriate for this kit because they belong to a different version of Tiger. The other two decal sets seem to match the kit.
It is strange to relate that the incorrect decal sets were not obscure or unresearched. Both of them were included in an old CyberHobby/Dragon kit named "Tiger I, Feb. 1944 Production". It should have been clear that they were not for a standard Late Tiger.
Tigers 323 and 114
Here is the real Tiger "323". A turret number such as "323" could be used on a dozen Tigers, of course, but the font and size of these digits matche exactly the decals in Das Werk's kit. This is the Tiger that they claim to represent.
Now, look at the circled item. It's a lock for holding the gun in place during travel. Das Werk's kit does not contain such a lock. It was a feature of the very first "Late" Tigers only - and those Tigers had other, significant differences too.
Here is a better view of a Tiger's travel lock. It has two folding arms held in two large clamps.
Photos of Tiger "114" are few and poor in quality. In one blurred photo of "114" driving, the travel lock is visible but not clear enough to identify. But in this photo, you cannot mistake the indicated item for anything else.
Therefore, these two decal sets are appropriate for a "February 1944" Tiger that differs from the Das Werk kit in several ways. In particular, it does not have the large circular ring on the hull roof around the turret. This ring is molded into the roof of the Das Werk kit and would be impractical to remove.
114 digit confusion
There is another error in Das Werk's new decals, as compared to Dragon's old ones. Dragon provided three identical copies of the digits "114", but Das Werk have drawn that number in two different fonts. They tell us to use one font on the rear of the tank and the other on the sides. It is very unusual for Panzer crew to mix different fonts on a vehicle.
The discrepancy is resolved here. The 507, like most units, renumbered their tanks occasionally. They had two distinct Tigers numbered "114" at different times: one with a binocular gunsight, and one monocular.
The kit therefore does not contain enough decals for either of them.
